Texas among top schools for four-star EDGE Desmond Umeozulu

The Longhorns are among the nine schools in the running.

The Longhorns are looking to build up their pass rush of the future, something that the team has been lacking since Joseph Ossai departed for the NFL.

Bo Davis was able to bring in a fantastic haul when it came to defensive linemen in the 2022 class, and he seems to already be working his magic in the class of 2023.

The Longhorns have found themselves as one of the nine finalist for four-star EDGE Desmond Umeozulu. Ohio State, Georgia, Clemson, UNC, Maryland, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and Penn State are also among his top schools.

The Maryland native is ranked as the No. 121 player nationally in 247Sports’ composite rankings, No. 10 at the EDGE position, and the No. 2 player in the state of Maryland. Here is what 247Sports’ national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn said about about his skillset.

Ideal frame to play edge in college with chance to add mass and strength and perhaps play defensive line. Can easily get to 240 pounds and has plus length. Plays mostly with hand on ground for Flowers but has some standup reps. Flashes twitch at snap and is able to stay low. Athleticism shines when coming off edge. Combination of length Plays attacking style and can re-direct along line of scrimmage. Possesses body control and closing speed to tackle in space. Has speed to chase down play from behind. Plays with energy and effort and has physical approach. Willing to work through double teams.

As it currently stands, Texas has three commits in their 2023 class and all of them are on the defensive side of the ball.
