Mark your calendars, make plans with family and friends, and tell anyone else you’ll be busy when the Texas A&M Aggies face the Miami Hurricanes on September 9, in what is pegged as a must-watch matchup in all of college football.
The Maroon and White will travel to South Beach for a head-to-head with the Miami Hurricanes in what 247Sports has highlighted as one of the best college football matchups in 2023. Both of these programs are looking to add to the win column and spark a much-needed turnaround this fall.
Rewind to last year and you’ll remember that both of these programs began the season in the top 20 before stumbling to a combined record of 14-20 and missing out on bowl season. Jimbo Fisher and Mario Cristobal have each added new offensive coordinators and still have talented recruiting classes that should give a boost this coming season.
Is it premature to say that the outcome of this Week 2 matchup could set the tone for the rest of the Aggies season?
There is no lack of storylines surrounding Jimbo’s need for a big season as a means of cooling off that hot seat of his. The addition of Bobby Petrino only adds further pressure to prove that the pairing will work. If the Aggies fall to the Hurricanes in Week 2 while mimicking last season’s struggles, the outside noise could be deafening.
On the contrary, if the Maroon and White make easy work of Miami in a thorough blowout, it will be an early indication of the promising trajectory of this program, led by Conner Weigman under center for year two. The icing on the cake would be the Aggies faithful having a field day in drumming up those Texas A&M hot takes from the cynics.
The Week 2 matchup will mark the fifth time that these two programs have met with the series tied at two wins apiece. The Aggies won the most recent head-to-head in last year’s Week 3 matchup at College Station, fending off then-ranked No. 13 Miami 17-9.
