Texas A&M Soccer didn’t exactly get the coverage they deserved after defeating Colorado 1-0 in the NCAA Tournament on Friday night, but in terms of highlight-worthy material, junior middle fielder/defender Mia Pante’s incredible goal in the 22nd minute to seal the win was hands down one of the best scores of the year.
In front of 1,659 fans at Ellis Field, the Aggies (10-7-4) will now face the No. 1 overall seed in Florida State next Friday and travel to Tallahassee. Setting up the matchup, the Seminoles thoroughly defeated Morehead State 5-0 in their first-round game.
Capping off Pante’s game-winning score, here’s how things set up, courtesy of Texas A&M Athletics:
“With a Colorado defender going to ground to attempt to clear a loose ball in the Aggies’ attacking third, Pante charged and made contact with the clearance about 30 yards from goal. The ball deflected high into the air towards the goal, and with the keeper off her line, snuck just under the bar and past the diving goalie to find the back of the net.”
Fifth-year goalkeeper Kenna Caldwell also recorded her 7th shutout on the season, while Colorado star Shyra James was held without a shot on goal.
