Texas A&M senior CB BJ Mayes has announced his future plans

After one season, CB BJ Mayes is out of collegiate eligibility, and has declared for the 2025 NFL Draft

Texas A&M senior cornerback BJ Mayes spent his final collegiate season proving his worth as a potential NFL player after several seasons in the JUCO ranks, Incarnate Word, and a one-year stint at UAB.

Needing starting talent and depth in the secondary, coach Mike Elko knew that despite only having him for one season, Mayes’ defensive instinct, man coverage skillset, and physical play was a no-brainer for the Aggie cornerback room to take the next step.

However, Mayes was somewhat buried on the depth chart for the first half of the season but ascended during the Aggies’ home win over LSU. The senior recorded four tackles and two key interceptions that completely changed the game, directly resulting in A&M outscoring the Tigers 21-6 in the second half.

Mayes finished the season with 29 tackles, four interceptions, and five pass deflections. On Thursday, he declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, as he is out of collegiate eligibility and looking to take the next step in his playing career.

Standing at 6-1 and 195 pounds, Mayes’ versatility should have nearly every NFL team watching his tape as a standout nickel corner with the size and speed to play on the outside.
