Texas A&M’s offensive gameplan likely won’t change much after junior running back Le’Veon Moss was lost for the season during the Aggie’s 44-20 loss to South Carolina last Saturday night, mainly due to his backup, junior back Amari Daniels, taking snaps.
While both players possess different skill sets, Daniels has been one of the better rotational backs in the country, already rushing for 466 yards and six touchdowns on 94 carries while scoring one of the two Aggie touchdowns against the Gamecocks off a 56-yard run.
However, as head coach Mike Elko noted this week, the offense will need to find more ways to score as the RB depth chart thins out, as Daniels and senior EJ Smith are now the only scholarship running backs on the roster.
“We have to find a way. Everything is on the table moving forward, and we have to find creative ways to move the football and score points.”
Aggie fans should feel good about Daniel’s taking over as the starter because of his speed in the open field. According to Reel Analytics, the junior was clocked at over 20 miles per hour during his 56-yard touchdown run against South Carolina.
Starting next Saturday night against New Mexico State, I expect Daniels to log double-digit snaps. In contrast, EJ Smith’s snap count will drastically increase to save Daniel’s for Auburn and Texas to finish the regular season.
Texas A&M will host New Mexico State on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 6:45 p.m. CT. The game will air on SEC Network.
