Texas A&M QB named to Kirk Herbstreit’s top performing players in Week 3

Kirk Herbstreit has alway been a big fan of Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed

Texas A&M’s offense received a jolt of momentum in Saturday’s 33-20 win over the Florida Gators, as redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed made his first career start, accounting for over 200 years and three touchdowns on the afternoon.

After the win, ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who personally knows Reed during his time as the starting quarterback for Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tennessee, where Herbstreit’s sons played.

Praising his dual-threat ability and overall fit in OC Collin Klein’s system during last weekend’s College GameDay, Herbstreit was unsurprised by Reed’s capability and performance in the winning, selecting the freshman as one of his top-seven performing players of the week.

Coming in at No. 5. Reed is on track to make his second consecutive start against Bowling Green on Saturday night, as quarterback Conner Weigman is currently day-to-day due to his AC joint (shoulder) injury that resulted in him missing the Florida game.

If Reed does start and perform at an even higher level, head coach Mike Elko will have a decision ahead of the Aggies’ second SEC game vs. Arkansas on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Texas A&M will host Bowling Green on Saturday, Sept. 21. The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ and SEC Network+.
