Texas A&M Player Profile: Offensive lineman, Kam Dewberry

Going into the 2022 football season, Aggies Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Texas A&M roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Jimbo Fisher this season.

Kam Dewberry is entering his first season as a reserve offensive tackle/guard on the offensive line for Texas A&M, looking to provide some position flex on a youthful, but very talented offensive line group. Coming in as the 64th ranked player in the 2022 recruiting class, Dewberry committed to the Aggies on Dec. 15, 2021, adding to what is already considered the most talented recruiting class in the history of modern age recruiting.

As a native of Humble, Texas, Dewberry played his high school ball at Atascocita High School, and was named a MaxPreps Sophomore All-American and first-team all-district selection during his 2019 sophomore season, named Texas 21-6A first-team all-district selection and a Class 6A first-team all-state selection by the Texas Sportswriters Association during his 2021 senior season. He was also a 2022 Polynesian Bowl selection, and a member of the 2022 Under Armour All-American Team.

Showing his versatility from the start, Dewberry started at left tackle during his 2018 freshman season, then transitioned to right tackle from his sophomore to senior season, and remains an option at both tackle spots as well as guard going into his first season with the Aggies. With the inexperience at left tackle as redshirt freshman, Trey Zuhn is presumed to take the starting spot, look for Dewberry to provide depth at the position going into the 2022 season.

Depth Chart Overview

Kam Dewberry is currently projected as a reserve/backup left tackle on the offensive line in Texas A&M’s pro-style offense, led by head coach, Jimbo Fisher, and offensive coordinator, Darrell Dickey. On the depth chart, Dewberry would be listed behind backup left tackle, Dametrious Crownover (Redshirt Freshman), and presumed starter at the position, Trey Zuhn (Redshirt Freshman).

From a scouting perspective, Dewberry is listed at 6-4, 313lbs, and has a lot of room to continue adding weight, especially if he is moved inside to play guard. He displays a large base and is an unstoppable force in the running game, consistently showing his insane athleticism, and using his equally large hands, long arms, and quick feet in the open field, leaving defenders to say their prayers as he clears a path.

In pass protection, the film is somewhat scarce due to him playing in a run-heavy offense for most of his high school career, yet when he is tasked to do so his massive frame, long arms, and advanced fundamentals gave most pass rushers trouble, but will need to refine his pass blocking prowess during his first couple seasons if he is indeed kept at the tackle position. Overall, Kam Dewberry has all the makings to one day be a star on the offensive line for Texas A&M, whether that’s on the outside or in the interior.
