Texas A&M offers former Murray State TE from the transfer portal

Texas A&M has fielded an offer to former Murray State tight end Cole Rusk in hopes of adding more depth at the position.

In need of more depth and potential starting-level production at the tight end position, Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko offered former Murray State TE Cole Rusk out of the transfer portal earlier this week, as veteran TE Max Wright ran out of collegiate eligibility heading into 2024.

Outside of Wright, TE Jake Johnson has followed his brother, former Aggies QB Max Johnson, to North Carolina. At the same time, TE Fernando Garza III entered his name into the portal but suited up during the Aggies TaxAct Texas bowl matchup vs. Oklahoma State.

Returning to the position in 2024, 2022 starter Donovan Green, paired with former four-star international 2022 prospect Theo Melin Öhrström, joins incoming transfer portal addition Garrett Miller to fill out the depth chart. However, adding another potential receiving weapon like Cole Rusk is much too intriguing to pass up.

With one year remaining eligibility, Rusk, who stands at 6’6″ and weighs 245 pounds, recorded 39 receptions for 512 yards and six touchdowns during his 2023 junior season. On paper, Rusk immediately offers experience and the ability to exploit the seam, so it’s no wonder he’s already received much attention from the portal thus far.
