Texas A&M lands a commitment from Iowa State transfer defensive lineman

Texas A&M has gained a vitle commitment from Iowa State transfer DL Tyler Onyedim

Boom! Texas A&M has gained another big-time commitment at a much-needed position, as former Iowa State defensive lineman Tyler Onyedim announced his commitment to the Aggies late Thursday night after visiting one the same day.

After gaining three edge rusher commitments over the past two weeks, coach Mike Elko and his defensive staff were focused on adding more starting talent and depth to the interior, especially after losing defensive linemen Nic Scourton, Shemar Turner, and Shemar Stewart, who declared for the 2025 NFL draft.

On Thursday, Elko hosted Washington State DL David Garcia and Onyedim, knowing that landing both or at least one of two veteran players would immediately impact the Aggies’ defensive line going into the 2025 season.

A Richmond, Texas native, Onyedim has started his last two seasons at defensive end in the Cyclones’ 3-3-5 system. During the previous four seasons, he produced 90 tackles, three sacks, and 12 tackles for loss.

A notable athlete, Onyedim finished the 2024 season with an impressive 72.4 run defensive grade and 62.7 coverage grade, according to Pro Football Focus.

Adding Tyler Onyedium was a no-brainer for a team that needs help up front. From a logistics perspective, Richmond (TX) is just an hour and a half away from College Station.
