Texas A&M’s 2024 season ended at a disappointing 8-4 and 5-3 in SEC play after losing three out of their last four games, including the season finale 17-7 loss to rival Texas in the revival of the Lone Star Showdown.
Amid head coach Mike Elko’s first season, plenty of issues, including the playcalling of OC Collin Klein, led to the underwhelming finish, but so did the lack of offensive playmakers and lack of depth at running back after star RB Le’Veon Moss was lost for the season.
Elko must replicate his transfer portal success last season while flipping several four——and five-star prospects ahead of early signing day.
However, Elko and his staff are also preparing for departures from the roster as the porta ramps up this month after the conclusion of every non-playoff contending team.
On Monday, it was announced that former four-star offensive line prospect and current junior backup guard Aki Ogunbiyi is the first Aggie to enter the transfer portal and will not be the last.
In four seasons, Ogunbiyi appeared in 23 games, including eight starts. A season-ending injury during the 2022 season ended his progress and likely contributed to the junior push down the depth chart.
With one season of eligibility remaining, Ogunbiyi is expected to hear from several SEC, Big 12, and Big Ten teams due to his size and experience in the toughest conference in college football.
