Texas A&M HC Mike Elko clarifies his fiery post game comments after defeating LSU

No, Mike Elko was not talking referencing Jimbo Fisher’s coaching tactics during his post LSU game press conference

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko isn’t known for being overly emotional, outside of protecting his players from unfair criticism, as we saw earlier this year regarding Aggies’ starting quarterback Conner Weigman.

However, after Texas A&M’s epic comeback 38-23 win over the LSU Tigers on Saturday night, the first-year head coach took the podium as fired up as we’ve seen him all year when discussing the state of the program while delivering a message to recruits who attended the matchup:

“It’s not fake. It’s not a politician running this program, talking fast and BS-ing everybody. This is a real program! For all the recruits out there, this is a real place. If you want to be really good at football, this is a really good place to be.”

Taking that comment at face value, former Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher and LSU head coach Brian Kelly immediately come to mind from the “politician” perspective. Still, during Monday’s press conference, Elko immediately denied referencing any specific coach, including Fisher.

“I’m the head coach at Texas A&M because of Jimbo Fisher… For anybody in the media to think that that was what I was doing post-LSU is asinine.”

While we may never know if Elko was referencing any current or former coach, it’s good to know that there is no bad blood with Fisher, whom Elko served under as the Aggies’ defensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021.

Texas A&M will travel to Columbia to face South Carolina on Saturday, Nov. 2nd, at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will air on either ABC or ESPN+.
