Texas A&M’s transfer portal success continued on Sunday morning, as the Aggies gained their second cornerback commitment from former Indiana/Washington CB Jordan Shaw, who visited College Station this weekend.
This offseason, coach Mike Elko and his staff were well aware of the secondary’s deficiencies, especially from a development standpoint. Freshman cornerback Dezz Ricks struggled immensely during A&M’s 35-31 Las Vegas Bowl loss to USC.
Adding a veteran corner like Shaw is a no-brainer. The redshirt freshman ended the season with 37 tackles and six pass deflections, and his 6-1 175-pound frame will fit next to returning star cornerback Will Lee III next season.
According to Pro Football Focus, Shaw earned a solid 69.4 defensive grade and a 69.5 coverage grade, both high marks representing a player on the rise with plenty of improvement. Regarding where he will line up next season, Shaw played 336 snaps in the slot but also saw time on the boundary and 63 snaps at free safety, so Shaw is a versatile defensive weapon.
