Texans vs. Rams second quarter recap: LA pulls away 24-0

The Houston Texans weren’t able to keep pace with the Los Angeles Rams, who pulled into halftime with a 24-0 lead.

Texans vs. Rams first quarter recap

Texans 2nd drive (3 plays, 9 yards, 2:00) — [continued] Houston’s second-and-6 call was a quick out to WR Danny Amendola that he fumbled out of bounds. Houston’s third down play was a screen to TE Brevin Jordan that gained nine yards, but the Texans elected to punt.

Rams 3rd drive (10 plays, 56 yards, 4:32) — The Rams marched down the field as if they had the deed to NRG Stadium. However, the Texans’ defense stiffened up in the red zone and made Sean McVay take the field goal this time. K Matt Gay hit a 27-yard field goal. Rams, 10-0

Texans 3rd drive (3 plays, 0 yards, 0:47) — QB Davis Mills chucked an interception on third down that LB Ernest Jones picked off and returned to the Texans’ 12-yard line.

Rams 4th drive (4 plays, 12 yards, 1:55) — It appeared the Texans turned the Rams over on downs on a fourth-and-3, but CB Vernon Hargreaves committed holding and gave Los Angeles a fresh set of downs at the 2-yard line. QB Matthew Stafford needed one play to hit WR Robert Woods for a touchdown. Rams, 17-0

Texans 4th drive (4 plays, 18 yards, 2:07) — Mills throws a 26-yard pass to WR Nico Collins to get things going, but it’s for nought. Houston doesn’t gain another first down, and punts the ball away.

Rams 5th drive (7 plays, 79 yards, 3:19) — Essentially LB Christian Kirksey was matched up on WR Cooper Kupp when he caught a 52-yard pass. It didn’t take much for the Rams to find the end zone again as RB Darrell Henderson rushes for a 1-yard touchdown. Rams, 24-0

Texans 5th drive () — Houston goes to the hurry-up and moves the ball down the field to try to setup a field goal, which was only possible thanks to DB Tremon Smith’s 44-yard return up to the Texans’ 38-yard line. K Ka’im Fairbairn went wide right on the 45-yard field goal attempt.
