Texans’ Tytus Howard says he didn’t watch too much film of other guards

Houston Texans offensive lineman Tytus Howard says that he doesn’t watch too much film of other NFL guards.

The Houston Texans would like to move Tytus Howard from right tackle to left guard.

While the former 2019 first-round pick from Alabama State did play some at guard throughout the preseason, Howard says that he did so leaning on his own understanding; he didn’t seek to emulate the play of any other guards in the NFL.

“To be honest, I haven’t really watched too many guards because I don’t like to watch too many different players,” Howard said. “I will watch some guys just to see how they do things, but I really like to learn and do stuff my own way because I think every player is different, everybody moves different, they see things different.”

The only game Howard has started at guard in his career was incidentally against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2 of 2019 at NRG Stadium. Since then, the other 21 games in Howard’s career have been played at right tackle.

If Howard had to watch film of some guards in the NFL, he does have a couple of names in mind.

Said Howard: “If I was to look at a couple clips of some guards it would be [Indianapolis Colts] Quenton Nelson, I think he’s a really good player, [Washington Football Team] Brandon Scherff, he came in as a tackle and moved to guard. So those would be two guys I would probably look at.”

Regardless, Howard is looking to do it his way when he kicks inside to guard.
