Texans S Justin Reid named NFLPA Community MVP for Week 1

Houston Texans safety Justin Reid was named the NFLPA Community MVP for Week 1 for his efforts to raise funds in the aftermath of Hurricane Ida.

Houston Texans safety Justin Reid makes as much of an impact off the field as he does on the field.

The NFLPA named the former 2018 third-round pick from Stanford as their first Community MVP of the 2021 season. Reid picked up the honor Friday for his work in donating $10,000 and two 18-wheelers worth of goods to individuals affected by Hurricane Ida.

Part of Reid’s willingness to give back is due to the leadership on the team when he came into the NFL.

“I’ve been lucky that I’ve had a bunch of guys I got to look up to,” Reid told reporters on Aug. 16. “I got to look up to J.J. Watt, Johnathan Joseph, Tyrann Mathieu was a strong emotional leader that came through, Kareem Jackson just was a pro’s pro. All those guys I got to take a bit of everything from them and add it to myself and in turn try to spread that to the rest of the guys on the field around me.”

In addition to adding what they brought on the field, Reid added what they brought off the field, too.
