Houston Texans running back David Johnson is finally earning some respect, albeit with just one game left in the 2020 regular season.
One of the bright spots from the 37-31 letdown to the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday afternoon at NRG Stadium was Johnson’s 128 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Finally, the former 2016 All-Pro was able to demonstrate what he could do on the ground for the Texans’ offense.
For Johnson’s efforts, he has been nominated for the FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Week Award. Fans have until 2:00 p.m. CT at to cast their votes for Johnson. Fans can also vote on Twitter at the NFL’s official Twitter account or on the NFL Mobile App.
Johnson faces stiff competition. Not only did San Francisco 49ers running back Jeff Wilson rush for 183 yards on 22 carries Sunday, but New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara rushed for 155 yards and six touchdowns on 22 carries.
The FedEx Air nominees include Tom Brady, who went 22-of-27 for 348 yards and four touchdowns and posted a perfect 158.3 passer rating. Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen completed 29 of 37 passing for 371 yards and two touchdowns. Finally, Dallas quarterback Andy Dalton went 22-of-30 for 377 yards and three touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles.
If Johnson is able to get the ward, FedEx will honor him by working with Direct Relief to deliver emergency medical backpacks to a Houston-area clinic or health center. The backpacks can take care of 500 people in each community.
