Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has a method to beat the heat and quarantine boredom: reading.
Watson is partnering with Ashley HomeStore to encourage children to read books this summer, in return for the opportunity to meet him and win a $5,000 Ashley HomeStore room makeover for their families.
Watson’s summer challenge is appropriately named, “4 Books for #4 Summer Reading Challenge.”
To qualify for the challenge, a child must read at least four books by Aug. 10. Children can read their books or they can pick up free ones at any of Ashley HomeStore’s 12 locations in the Houston area, courtesy of Books Between Kids; a mini children’s library setup inside Ashely HomeStore’s Houston locations.
“One of the cornerstones of my foundation is education,” Watson said on the challenge in a news release. “Kids have gone through quite a bit these past few months, including being out of school. That’s why it’s so important to encourage them to get back to reading.”
To enter the challenge and for more information, text READ4 to 797979. After registering and completing all four books, children or family members can enter their four read books, the child’s favorite and the reasoning as to why it’s their favorite.
Four winners in separate age groups will be chosen. In return for picking up and finishing four books, the four lucky winners will enjoy a private meet-and-greet with Watson and a $5,000 Ashley HomeStore room makeover.
Ashley HomeStore is also accepting donations of children’s books for their Books Between Kids mini-libraries. All donated books will be properly sanitized before being added to the collection. Books will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis during regular store hours at Ashley HomeStore’s 12 Houston locations.
