It wasn’t the fact the Houston Texans won; it was the way they won.
The Texans’ 37-21 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 at NRG Stadium was a convincing win over a team many had at the same level in their power rankings.
According to Nate Davis of USA TODAY, the Texans were No. 32 entering Week 1. The Jaguars were No. 29. Houston didn’t just edge Jacksonville; they crushed them.
27. Texans (32): Nice to see rookie coach David Culley and QB Tyrod Taylor, neither exactly flush with good NFL luck, break from the gate with such a decisive victory in their Houston debuts.
Jacksonville tumbled to No. 32 in the power rankings. The Indianapolis Colts went from No. 20 to No. 25. The Tennessee Titans took the biggest tumble as they went from No. 9 to No. 17, but that tends to happen when the Arizona Cardinals dismantle a team 38-13 in their home venue.
The Texans take on the Cleveland Browns Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time from FirstEnergy Stadium. The Browns are currently No. 4 in the power rankings and dropped one place after their 33-29 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1.
How far could the Texans propel if they get the win and move to 2-0?
