Texans offensive assistant joins Saints staff

The Houston Texans offensive assistant DeNarius McGhee will be the New Orleans Saints’ assistant wide receivers coach in 2024.

Offensive assistant DeNarius McGhee joined the New Orleans Saints staff this offseason, the team announced Wednesday. McGhee will be the Saints’ assistant wide receivers coach after four years with the Texans.

McGhee joined the Texans as an offensive quality control coach in 2020 after four years coaching at Montana State. He worked with the quarterbacks for two seasons before moving to the running backs.

DeMeco Ryans’ coaching staff has garnered a lot of attention this offseason. However, most ended up staying with the Texans. Offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson were courted by multiple teams for promotions before both signed new contracts to remain with Houston. Safeties coach Stephen Adegoke and assistant offensive line coach Cole Popovich both returned as well.

It’s hard to keep good coaches, though, when the team outperforms expectations. Houston’s offense finished in the top half of the league in multiple statistics and quarterback C.J. Stroud ran away with Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Now, McGhee will have more responsibility in New Orleans with their stable of pass catchers led by Stroud’s old Ohio State teammate, Chris Olave.
