Texans miss out on Bryce Young, draft Will Anderson in surprising CBS Sports mock

The Houston Texans make a surprising move and take Will Anderson No. 2 overall in the latest CBS Sports mock draft.

The Houston Texans have been linked to Alabama quarterback Bryce Young since early in the 2022 regular season. The organization and the former 2021 Heisman Trophy seem perfect for each other.

What would the Texans do if Young wasn’t there for the taking?

According to Will Brinson from CBS Sports, the Carolina Panthers pick Young No. 1 overall in his latest mock draft. Houston reacts by taking themselves out of the quarterback market altogether at No. 2 overall and take Alabama defensive end Will Anderson.

The Texans are PROBABLY taking a quarterback at No. 2, but they also turned down a chance to move into the first pick, (presumably) knowing the Bears had other suitors for the spot. So what if they’re just happy with one of the Alabama players? Houston took two of them last year with Nick Caserio in charge after Jack Easterby’s ousting. It would seriously shake up the draft in a fun way.

Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud goes No. 3 overall to the Tennessee Titans, who make an aggressive trade with the Arizona Cardinals to grab their new franchise quarterback.

The Texans don’t neglect quarterback altogether as they take Florida’s Anthony Richardson with the No. 12 overall pick. If the Texans wanted to pair Richardson with a rookie receiver, in Brinson’s mock, Houston would not have a chance at any of the top-5 wideouts as they are all gone by the end of Round 1.
