Another one of DeMeco Ryans’ staff is interviewing for a role on another team.
Houston Texans linebackers coach Chris Kiffin will interview for the Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator job on Friday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The Dolphins job opened up after 2023 defensive coordinator Vic Fangio left to join the Philadelphia Eagles’ coaching staff.
Kiffin, 42, joined the Texans this season after two seasons coaching the defensive line with the Cleveland Browns. He previously spent time with the San Francisco 49ers as a pass rush specialist from 2018 to 2019 and coached considerably in the college ranks at Florida Atlantic, Ole Miss and Arkansas State.
Kiffin is the third assistant coach to garner attention from other teams. Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik and quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson also interviewed with several teams for promotions. Slowik is in contention for the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders head coaching jobs after he interviewed for other open positions, while Johnson spoke with teams about vacant offensive coordinator roles, including two interviews with the New Orleans Saints.
This is the price of success in the NFL and now Ryans could lose one of his top defensive lieutenants after just one season.
