The Houston Texans may be 0-2, but they did showcase flashes of encouragement in their 31-20 loss to the Indianapolis Colts at NRG Stadium in Week 2.
Perhaps the biggest point of optimism is quarterback C.J. Stroud, who went 30-of-47 for 384 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. While the rest of the team comes together, it appears the rookie signal caller can at least do damage in the passing game.
According to Jarrett Bailey from the Touchdown Wire, the Texans’ performance in Week 2 was well enough to bump them up from No. 30 to No. 28 in the latest power rankings.
The Texans lost, but they didn’t mail it in, and C.J. Stroud threw for nearly 400 yards. Plus, Nico Collins and Tank Dell both at productive days. Will they beat the Jaguars in Week 3? Probably not. But if Houston is going down, sugar they’re going down swinging.
Across the rest of the AFC South, the Tennessee Titans finished No. 25, and the Indianapolis Colts were just ahead of them at No. 24. The Jacksonville Jaguars actually improved from No. 9 to No. 8 following their loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Texans take on the Jaguars in Week 3 at TIAA Bank Field. One can only imagine the power rankings boost Houston would receive if they somehow stole one Sunday in Jacksonville.
