Texans inside linebacker Benardrick McKinney's $6 milllion base salary for 2020 is now fully guaranteed for skill and salary cap by being on the roster five days into the league year. His salary was guaranteed for injury only when he signed his five-year, $51 million deal in 2018

Houston Texans inside linebacker Benardrick McKinney’s 2020 salary is now fully guaranteed.
According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, because the Pro Bowler was on the roster for at least five full days into the 2020 NFL year, which began on March 18, McKinney’s $6 million is now guaranteed for skill. When the former 2015 second-round pick from Mississippi State signed his five-year, $51 million contract in the 2018 offseason, his salary was only guaranteed for injury.
McKinney collected 101 tackles, four tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, three pass breakups, a forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries in his 14 games for the Texans in 2019, all of which he started.
“The thing about Benardrick is he brings a level of physicality to our defense,” coach Bill O’Brien told reporters on Nov. 5, 2019. “He’s big, he can run, he’s got great instincts, good tackler, tough guy and an even better guy, great guy in the locker room.”
When McKinney signed his contract extension, more than the money, he appreciated that the Texans considered him in their long-term plans.
