Texans GM Nick Caserio won’t comment on the future of David Culley

Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio would not comment directly on the future for coach David Culley when asked by Sports Radio 610.

The Houston Texans are 2-10, which means everyone’s job is on the line, especially coach David Culley’s.

However, general manager Nick Caserio wouldn’t get involved in any speculation as to Culley’s future with the team when he joined “Payne & Pendergast” on Sports Radio 610 [KILT-AM] Tuesday. Cohost Seth Payne asked Caserio if he knew for sure that Culley would be coaching the team in 2022.

Yeah, I mean, I respect the question, Seth, but I’m not going to make any commentary about what’s going to happen after the season,” Caserio said. “Our focus right now is on getting ready for the Seahawks. My responsibility — I’ve been put in charge to run the football operations and oversee all aspects of it. So, anything that we do in the offseason from evaluating our scheme to evaluating where our program is headed, we’ll have those conversations after the season.”

The Texans got off to a positive start with a 37-21 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1 at NRG Stadium. However, the club went on an disastrous eight-game losing streak that ensured they would have zero shot at the postseason.

Even with the motivation of playing for pride or to establish culture, the Texans squandered such a chance after failing to capitalize on their 22-13 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 11. The Texans came out flat and lost 21-14 to the New York Jets at home and then were shutout for the second time this season, 31-0, at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts, also at home, in Week 13.

Caserio insists his job is to support the current staff.

Said Caserio: “My responsibility is to our coaching staff and support them to the best of our ability and that’s what I’m going to continue to do on a daily basis. Really the focus for this week is getting ready for Seattle, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Houston hosts the Seahawks Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time at NRG Stadium.
