The Houston Texans only got worse after the 2020 NFL Draft.
That is the premise Mark Schofield from the Touchdown Wire is operating under after taking a look at the Texans’ five-man draft class, their smallest in team history. With a previous rank of 17, the Texans fell to 21st overall in the latest Touchdown Wire NFL power rankings.
Ross Blacklock was one of my favorite players to watch this draft season, and should provide a boost to the interior of their defensive line in the wake of D.J. Reader’s departure. John Reid was a great pick near the end of the draft, and could be a surprise next season given how well he functions in zone coverage. But Jonathan Greenard, who they picked 90th, was a reach, and there is speculation that a deal with the Detroit Lions fell through and left Bill O’Brien holding the bag, and a player he did not want. Which, well, sums up this off-season better than I could.
The Texans’ low draft grade on the Touchdown Wire also affected Schofield’s decision to drop Houston a couple spots.
In the AFC South, the Texans weren’t dead last. The Jacksonville Jaguars pull up the rear of the division at 30th overall. The Indianapolis Colts rank ninth-best, and the Tennessee Titans are among top-5 best teams in the NFL at fifth overall.
