Texans EVP Jack Easterby says Deshaun Watson’s best gift is being a good listener

Houston Texans executive vice president Jack Easterby says that quarterback Deshaun Watson’s best gift is being a good listener.

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson has been blessed with sundry talents he uses on the football field.

The two-time Pro Bowler can throw the deep ball, and is clutch in the fourth quarter. However, Texans executive vice president of football operations Jack Easterby knows one of Watson’s best gifts that the general public doesn’t get to see.

“What I’ve been blessed to witness as probably the newest member of this franchise is how Deshaun has used his gifts, his gifts of presence,” Easterby said during Watson’s contract extension presser Saturday evening. “He has a gift of presence when he’s with other people. His gift of being a good listener. He listens to his teammates really well. A gift of being consistent because he’s a consistent person so people know what they’re going to get out of him.

“I think a gift of being a good friend because you have to be a friend and teammate from the position; agift of being a good communicator both verbally and non-verbally which I think really matters at the quarterback position. He’s got gifts and he used those gifts to now then gain an opportunity to have treasure.

One treasure Watson earned was a $160 million contract extension with the Texans that keeps him with the team through the 2025 season with an annual average salary of $39 million with a $27 million signing bonus.

“Now he’ll use the continued treasure both in leadership and financial wealth to influence this city and a lot of people for the right things, and we believe that wholeheartedly,” Easterby said.

The Texans take on the Kansas City Chiefs Sept. 10 at Arrowhead Stadium to kickoff the NFL season. Houston is hopeful their 19th season in franchise history will warrant more treasure than just the AFC South titles and wild-card wins they have acquired since 2002. With a top-10 quarterback locked up for the next half-decade, the Texans should have plenty of occasions to claim treasures.
