The Houston Texans took a tumble in the latest power rankings from the Touchdown Wire.
According to Mark Schofield, the two-time AFC South champions fell from No. 11 down to No. 17 in the post free agency power rankings.
Schofield doesn’t really provide a reason other coach Bill O’Brien’s personnel moves remind him of the series finale of “Seinfeld.” However, the trading of receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals for a couple of draft picks and All-Pro running back David Johnson will continue to be the pock mark on the face of the Texans’ offseason. It is the focal point of all criticism, and there frankly isn’t anything that can be done to move past it until Opening Day arrives in the NFL.
In the context of the AFC South, the Texans’ 17th spot is third among division rivals. The Jacksonville Jaguars pull up the rear of the whole power rankings at 32nd overall. The Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans crack the top-10 with the two sides coming in at No. 9 and No. 6.
Even if the Texans were No. 1 in the power rankings, it wouldn’t be real nor spectacular because it’s still the first quarter of the new league year. The NFL Draft remains, and teams still have to evaluate how their 90-man roster looks before training camp. Furthermore, late July and August’s complement of preseason games always affect a team’s roster via injuries and other availability issues.
