The Houston Texans got the job done. In dropping the Tennessee Titans to 8-6 with a 24-21 win Sunday afternoon at Nissan Stadium, 9-5 Texans are in the driver’s seat in the AFC South.
If the Texans were to win next Saturday over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium, they would clinch the AFC South division, no matter if the Titans beat the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
If both the Texans and Titans lose next week, Houston would be the one moving on to the playoffs.
The Buccaneers are 7-7. They beat the Detroit Lions 38-17 on Sunday.
Being that the Texans hold tiebreakers due to division wins, both Houston and Tennessee can finish at 10-6 and Deshaun Watson and Co. would be the ones advancing to the playoffs.
According to Pro Football Focus, the Texans have an 89.7% chance to win the division after the win. If they lost, they would stand at 44.7%.
Houston would host their playoff game if they were to win the AFC South. It would be the second-straight year of winning the division and fourth such title since 2014 when the Texans hired Bill O’Brien
