Texans awarded former Titans DL Teair Tart off waivers

Former Titans DL Teair Tart is going to a division rival.

One day after the Houston Texans upset the Tennessee Titans in an overtime win, they are now bringing in their division rivals’ former defensive lineman.

According to the league’s transactions wire, the Texans have been awarded former Titans defensive lineman Teair Tart off waivers after he was waived on Saturday.

The move to waive Tart in-season was a surprising one.

Granted, there was at least an inkling that things had soured between Tart and the Titans, but it getting to the point where he had to be let go before the season ended was borderline shocking.

Considering his ability as a run defender and age, the fact that Tart made it as far as he did on waivers is also surprising. Perhaps his issues with the Titans made teams think twice about bringing him in.

Tart will get at least a three-game audition with the Texans before hitting free agency in 2024, but it could end up being longer if Houston can make the playoffs, something they’re in good position to do.

Assuming all goes well with Tart and his new team, this will add a little more juice to the Titans-Texans Week 17 game at NRG Stadium in what will be a crucial contest for Houston’s playoff hopes.
