Texans adapting to increased COVID-19 protocols

The Houston Texans are adapting to the latest COVID-19 protocols that the NFL has mandated for all 32 teams.

The NFL is increasing its COVID-19 protocols, and the Houston Texans are adapting to the league’s increased requirements.

According to coach David Culley, the Texans have started conducting more virtual work at NRG Stadium.

“We basically went virtual starting yesterday,” Culley said. “Everything is virtual as far as our meetings. We actually get to be on the field with them just like normal, except any time we’re off the field is basically a virtual thing. Everybody has to wear a mask at all times other than when we’re on the field. It’s the same thing when we travel. But basically, we’re just going with the protocols that they’ve assigned us to do.”

The Texans take on the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Central Time at TIAA Bank Field for Week 15.

Houston has eight players who were added to the COVID-19 reserve this week. It is improbable any of them come off the reserve in time for the Jacksonville game.

“Once a guy gets COVID, the NFL has protocols that he has to go through,” said Culley. “We go through it. All of our guys are vaccinated that have gotten COVID so the thing is we just move on and wait until they are able to pass the tests consecutively and see if they are able to get on the field or not. Other than that, the next man moves up.”

Safety could be the most thin position for Houston as they take on the Jaguars. Terrence Brooks and A.J. Moore are on COVID-19 reserve while starter Justin Reid won’t play due to a concussion.
