Terrell Davis says Broncos have ‘tremendous upside’ under Sean Payton

“Every day it’s growing,” Terrell Davis said of the Broncos’ outlook. “I still think there is tremendous upside to what they are doing.”

The Sean Payton era for the Denver Broncos is in Year 2, and while the record is leaving more to be desired (10-11 through 21 games), he is still cleaning up the mess that former Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett left after getting fired in 2022.

One Broncos legend believes Payton will boost the team’s potential. In a recent interview with Kyle Odegard of Sports Talk Philly, former running back Terrell Davis discussed the job Payton has done and the Broncos’ trajectory.

He’s doing it the way he wants to do it,Davis said.So far, does it look like what we expect? No. But that doesn’t mean he’s not on that trajectory. I’m like most people. I’m trying to be patient, to wait and see what it looks like. They’ve won two games, which is more than I thought at this point. I thought they’d have one game or even no games at this point.

That’s a young team. There’s a still-growing quarterback who is trying to figure out who his main targets are. He’s trying to figure out how to be quarterback in the NFL. It’s a process, and I really do mean that. We want instant gratification. We want it to be final in four weeks, and it’s not going to be final. This thing is evolving. Every day it’s growing. I still think there is tremendous upside to what they are doing.”

Payton and Co. will look to climb above .500 when they host the Las Vegas Raiders at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday.
