Tennessee’s Aubin Goporo named head coach at Knoxville’s West High School.

KNOXVILLE — A member of the University of Tennessee men’s basketball support staff has been named the head boys basketball coach at West High School.

Aubin Goporo, who has served as the director of student-athlete development for the UT men’s basketball team and Rick Barnes, was tapped to take over the Rebels’ program.

He replaces former Vols’ basketball player Chris Kesler.

West parted ways with Kesler earlier this spring. Kesler had a long tenure at the school and served stints as both the girls and boys coach. He coached the Lady Rebels first and then took over the boys program after his daughter graduated.

He led the Rebels to the Class AAA State Tournament in 2011, and under his guidance, West made the state sectionals the following year.

Goporo has worked for Barnes since 2017. He previously worked at Louisiana-Lafayette and was a high school coach at Florida Air Academy in Melbourne, Fla. There he won three Class 3A state championships.
