Oklahoma has added another offensive weapon via the transfer portal in Eric Gary. The running back from Tennessee announced he would be heading to Norman to join Lincoln Riley’s squad instead of Texas.
Gray just completed his sophomore season with the Volunteers, playing in nine games and starting in five. He finished with 772 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground while having 30 receptions for 254 yards and two touchdowns in the air.
As a recruit, Gray was the No. 184 prospect in the country and a four-star. Listed as an all-purpose back, he was the No. 3 player at his position and No. 5 within his home state of Tennessee.
Running back became a position of need for the Sooners after losing Rhamondre Stevenson to the NFL draft. Kennedy Brooks, who opted-out of the 2020 season, announced he would be coming back for the upcoming season. With how much Riley enjoys running the ball, splitting time between backs is crucial.

With Texas missing on a target in the transfer portal, the running back room will remain as it is. Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, and Jonathon Brooks are expected to do most of the heavy lifting throughout the upcoming season.
Four-star L.J. Johnson, who is still deciding between Texas and Texas A&M, could be on campus as early as February. The 2021 prospect would make another great addition to the Longhorns’ rather thin collection of running backs.
