Tennessee is close to hiring yet another new head coach that will be in charge of leading the Volunteers back to the top of the SEC.

Per Pete Thamel, UCF’s Josh Heupel and Tennessee were closing in on a deal on Wednesday morning and, per Knox News, the deal is now done.

The move makes sense as the Volunteers’ new athletic director is Danny White who also came from UCF and hired Heupel in 2018 to replace Scott Frost who left for the Nebraska job. White replaced Phillip Fulmer just last week as the athletic director.

In his first head coaching position, Heupel led the Knights to a 28-8 overall record in three seasons including back-to-back 10-win seasons in 2018-19.
