Tennessee Titans showing interest in Minnesota S Antoine Winfield Jr.

The Titans are showing interest in a top-five safety in this year’s draft, Antoine Winfield, Jr.

You wouldn’t expect the Tennessee Titans to be doing much homework on safeties in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft, and especially not on ones projected to get picked on Day 2 at the latest.

But the Titans have done just that, as Minnesota safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. listed them as one of the teams he has met with when appearing on the “PFT PM” podcast with Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.

“The unique 2020 pre-draft process has seen the typical tactics swapped out for video conferences. And University of Minnesota safety Antoine Winfield Jr., the Big 10 defensive back of the year, has heard from several teams via modern technology.

Appearing on  Friday’s #PFTPM, Winfield said that he’s heard from the Vikings, Chiefs, Patriots, Titans, and Buccaneers.”

The reason you wouldn’t expect the Titans to be meeting with one of the top-five safeties in this year’s draft class is that the team is already solid at the position.

General manager Jon Robinson inked Kevin Byard to the richest extension for a safety in NFL history prior to last season, Kenny Vaccaro is signed through 2022, and he also drafted Amani Hooker in 2019.

Not to mention, the Titans have bigger needs to address early on in the draft, so taking a safety would be an interesting choice to say the least.

If the Titans were to draft Winfield Jr., they’d be getting a versatile safety who can play both in coverage and in the box. He also has an NFL pedigree, as his father played 14 years in the NFL with the Bills and Vikings.
