Tennessee Titans new OC Todd Downing: 6 things to know

Downing has over two decades of coaching experience.

The Tennessee Titans will reportedly promote tight ends coach Todd Downing to be their next offensive coordinator after Arthur Smith left to become the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons recently.

This hire certainly isn’t the flashy one that some of us were hoping for, but it fits with the usual approach of Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who likes to promote from within and stick with coaches he knows.

Downing will now take the reins of an offense that has been among the league’s best since quarterback Ryan Tannehill was named the starter in Week 7 of the 2019 campaign.

Can Downing pick up where Smith left off, or even take this offense to another level?

That remains to be seen, but with the core of the unit all under contract in 2021, he has a good shot to have success. For now, we’ll take a look at six things to know about the Titans’ newest offensive coordinator.
