The Tennessee Titans head into the 2020 NFL Draft with arguably more pressing needs on defense than offense, and could kick off the first round by addressing the defensive side of the ball.
But would they really add a safety in the first round?
That’s what Dan Schneier of CBS Sports has the team doing at pick No. 29 overall, pinning Southern Illinois safety Jeremy Chinn to the team.
“The Titans make a surprising selection to some by grabbing Chinn — out of Southern Illinois — but it’s also the most exciting pick,” he wrote. “Chinn lined up all over in college and the Titans will have a lot of fun lining Chinn up with the goal of using him to attack downhill on the line of scrimmage. Chinn is what so many teams are now looking for and so few teams have at the linebacker position — and that’s where I feel he will ultimately settle in.”
In the second round, Schneier had the Titans sticking to defense still, taking Missouri defensive lineman Jordan Elliott at No. 61.
“The Titans improve their interior pass rush and help to make up for the loss of Jurrell Casey — arguably the NFL’s most underrated interior defensive lineman over the last several seasons,” he wrote.
In the third round, he gave the Titans another target on offense in Washington tight end Hunter Bryant.
“The Titans try to find another weapon and an answer at tight end to pair with Ryan Tannehill,” he wrote of the pick.
How closely will these projections align with reality? We’ll begin to get a look on Thursday.
