In his latest mock draft, ESPN’s Todd McShay has the Tennessee Titans addressing two areas of need in the first two rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft.
McShay has the Titans taking Penn State EDGE Yetur Gross-Matos in the first round and Georgia offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson in the second.
Here are his write-ups for each.
Round 1, pick No. 29: Yetur Gross-Matos | EDGE| Penn State
“Vic Beasley Jr. still has upside — he does have a 15.5-sack season — but regardless, the Titans will be seeking edge rushing in the draft. Gross-Matos is the top pass-rusher still on the board, and while he might need time to develop, he possesses above-average pass-rush talent, the ability to set the edge against the run and the speed to chase players down in pursuit.”
Round 2, pick No. 61: Isaiah Wilson, OT, Georgia
“The top-end tackle resources have dried up by this point, but Wilson would lessen the loss of Jack Conklin a bit. He has a massive 6-foot-7, 350-pound frame.”
This is a solid mock for the Titans.
Yes, Tennessee does have Vic Beasley in the fold after signing him this offseason, but it’s only a one-year deal, which leaves open the possibility that the Titans are back in the same boat looking for an EDGE next offseason.
Gross-Matos will help secure the position for the long haul, but would also get a year to develop and contribute in a reserve role. And, who knows, maybe the Penn State product can play well enough to earn significant snaps.
The second-round pick also makes a lot of sense. With the departure of Jack Conklin, the Titans lose a key backup along the offensive line with Dennis Kelly moving up the depth chart to starting right tackle.
Wilson, who is a massive human being, started at right tackle for Georgia and would provide solid depth and a possible long-term solution at the position.
McShay has gone a few different avenues with the Titans in past mock drafts. He’s had them take both a cornerback and offensive tackle in the first round in previous versions, and those are both possibilities as well for sure.
