Two weeks after reportedly joining Kalen DeBoer with the Alabama Crimson Tide, former Washington Huskies co-defensive coordinator William Inge has reportedly decided to take his talents to the Tennessee Volunteers instead according to ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg.
Inge will join the Volunteers as the team’s linebackers coach after performing the same duties at Washington for the past two seasons while also acting as the team’s co-defensive coordinator. DeBoer is now left with just two members of his former staff in offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan and wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard after announcing former South Alabama head coach Kane Wommack as the Crimson Tide’s defensive coordinator and inside linebackers coach.
Before his time at Washington, Inge acted as the defensive coordinator at Fresno State with DeBoer for two seasons. He also spent seven seasons with the Indiana Hoosiers in various roles, but mainly as the team’s linebackers coach.
Under his watch, senior Edefuan Ulofoshio earned All-Pac-12 first team honors last season after accruing 94 tackles, 3 sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception he returned for a touchdown. Senior Carson Bruener also had a breakout season in 2023 where he totaled 70 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, and an interception.
Inge will replace Brian Jean-Mary on coach Josh Heupel’s staff at Tennessee, who left to take the same position at Michigan under coach Sherrone Moore.
