Tennessee offers Knoxville Catholic’s Handje Tamba.

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee men’s basketball team and head coach Rick Barnes have offered a local budding star a scholarship.

Knoxville Catholic High School center Handje Tamba announced on a social media via Twitter that he received an offer from the Volunteers on Wednesday.

He tweeted:

“Blessed to receive an offer from the University of Tennessee today #govols.”

A 7-foot center, Tamba helped the Irish, his high school team win the Division II-AA state championship in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic prematurely ended the school year and all extracurricular activities, including sports.

He is the second rising KCHS junior to earn an offer from the Big Orange.

Irish point guard B.J. Edwards also has an offer from the Vols. Edwards was the state tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
