Tennessee offers in-state tight end product from Williamson County

The Vols are looking for prospects to add to the 2022 recruiting class.

Tennessee has spent a lot of time recruiting the Nashville area under Jeremy Pruitt, and the Vols extended an offer to another prospect out of the elite Williamson County high school football region, 6-6A.

Ty Lockwood of Independence High School in Thompson’s Station, Tennessee received his offer this week from UT.

Lockwood stands at 6-foot-5, 220 pounds, and plays for head coach Scott Blade at Independence. Though Lockwood is listed as a tight end, he plays several different roles for the Independence Eagles offense.

This high school football region has produced talents like 4-star wideout Walker Merrill, a Brentwood High School product who is committed to Tennessee. Ravenwood High School is another school in the region, that has produced Clemson tight end commit Jake Briningstool and Michigan linebacker commit Junior Colson in the 2021 cycle alone.

Independence’s 2020 season came to an end in the second round of the 6A playoffs in Tennessee in a dramatic loss to Brentwood on Friday.

Lockwood still has one more year of high school football to be played and also holds offers from Ole Miss, Tulane and Virginia.
