The Tennessee connection with Powell begins with his defensive backs coach Naz Oliver. Oliver played defensive back and wide receiver at Tennessee under Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley from 2009-12.
Powell is a 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect that is rated a 3-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite, as well as the No. 30 cornerback in his class and the No. 6 player in the state of New Jersey.
Nebraska, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina and others have offered Powell.
Tennessee does not yet have a prospect committed to the 2022 recruiting class.
