KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee has a proud football program rich in history and tradition, and over the years many great players have played on Rocky Top.

Vols Wire looks at which players wore each jersey number for the Volunteers.

No. 74

The number goes back to 1937 in Tennessee’s tradition-rich program. It was first worn by Nick Webber.

Webber, a halfback for the Vols, wore the number for one season in Knoxville.

The number was once worn by Jim Smelcher, who coached high school football in the Knoxville Area. Smelcher coached at Bearden High School from 1964-73.
