KNOXVILLE`– The University of Tennessee has a proud football program rich in history and tradition, and over the years many great players have played on Rocky Top.
Vols Wire looks at which players wore each jersey number for the Volunteers.
No. 62
The number is retired in the UT program in honor of fullback Clyde Fuson.
Fuson is one of four former Volunteers to have his number retired after being killed in action during World War II.
He, Willis Tucker, Rudy Klarner and Bill Nowling all had their numbers retired prior to Tennessee’s 2006 victory over Air Force at Neyland Stadium.
Fuson was the second player to wear No. 62 on Rocky Top. It was first worn by end Mike Balitsas between 1939-41.
Fuson sported the number in 1942, his lone season at Tennessee. It was last worn in 1988 by center Nick Zecchino.
