Tennessee football: Players who wore No. 58

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee has a proud football program rich in history and tradition, and over the years many great players have played on Rocky Top.

Vols Wire looks at which players wore each jersey number for the Volunteers.

No. 58

The number goes back to 1938 at Tennessee and it was first worn by Bill Luttrell.

Luttrell played tackle for the Vols from 1938-40 and wore the number in all three of his seasons in Knoxville.

It was later worn by Todd Kelly, a defensive end for the Big Orange from 1989-92.

He was an All-Southeastern Conference standout in 1992 and was a first-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 1993 NFL Draft, going No. 27.

Kelly also played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Atlanta Falcons.

His son, Todd Kelly Jr., also played at UT after a stellar prep career under legendary coach David Meske at Webb School of Knoxville.
