Tennessee football: Players who wore No. 36

KNOXVILLE — The University of Tennessee has a program rich in history and tradition, and over the years many great players have played on Rocky Top.

Vols Wire looks at which players wore each jersey number for the Volunteers.

No. 36

The number goes back in Vols’ football history to 1938. It was first worn by Ed Molinski.

Molinski, a guard, donned the number for three years.

The number does not have the pedigree of some in the program, but it was worn by a pair of local high school stars who went on to play at Tennessee.

Anthony Anderson, a defensive back and basketball player at Knoxville’s Austin-East High School, wore the number between 2008-11. In five years on Rocky Top, Anderson appeared in 39 games, playing mostly on special teams. He is currently the girls basketball coach for the Lady Roadrunners at his alma mater, where he replaced former Lady Vol Gwen Jackson.

His family has deep roots in East Knoxville.

Cody Blanc, a standout from Knoxville Central High School, wore No. 36 at UT in 2012 and played wide receiver.
