Tennessee and Memphis to play basketball in 2021

The Vols and Tigers will play on the hardwood in Nashville.

KNOXVILLE — The coronavirus pandemic caused a cancellation for the basketball game between Tennessee and Memphis this season.

The contest has now been rescheduled for Dec. 18, 2021, and will be played at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

The game was postponed a year due to the fact that both Tennessee and Memphis agreed that the game should be played in front of a sold-out crowd.

The game is the third of a three-game series. Tennessee won in Memphis in 2019 and the Tigers won last season in Knoxville at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Volunteers’ associate head coach Michael Schwartz was pleased that the two in-state rivals could be rescheduled in Nashville.

“This was the right thing to do, and it’s the best thing for both teams’ fanbases,” Schwartz said in a press release. “We’re appreciative of Bridgestone Arena working with us to keep this game in Nashville.

“It should be a great statewide showcase for college basketball.”
