Recently, a cryptic Tee Higgins tweet sent Cincinnati Bengals fans and the greater NFL world into a fit of speculation.

Higgins kept it simple, tweeting out a comment about the No. 5. That could have been talking about the team’s fifth pick in the upcoming 2021 NFL draft, or it could have meant he was switching off the No. 85.

After all, there’s talk of certain new positions being allowed to wear single-digit numbers if a rule change goes through.

But Higgins took to social media in the wake of that chatter and took the time to respond to a fan asking about whether he’ll change his number:

So that clears that up. Higgins had the blessing of Chad Johnson himself to wear No. 85 as a rookie and went on to be a breakout star.

Now, that jersey will be one of five players featured in the upcoming jersey redesign unveiling next Monday.
