TE Maxx Williams misses another practice, but should be ready Week 1

The veteran tight end has some “lingering issues” and “general soreness,” according to Kliff Kingsbury.

The Arizona Cardinals had a pair of offensive starters sitting out of Monday’s practice in training camp due to injuries. It was not a simple day off. One was running back Kenyan Drake, who was seen in a walking boot. Kliff Kinsgbury said it was because Drake is sore from his work in camp.

Also absent was tight end Maxx Williams, who also sat out on Sunday, as well as multiple practices last week.

Kingsbury did not elaborate as to what the issue is, calling it “soreness” and “some lingering stuff,” tweeted AZCardinals.com’s Kyle Odegard.

However, Williams is expected to be ready for the season opener in just less than three weeks.

“There are quite a few vets on this team that we know what they’re about, and we want them to be healthy when we play the 49ers,” Kingsbury said after practice. “He’s one of those on that plan.”

Teams are not required to disclose injuries before the season.

Teams do take extra caution with veteran players in training camp so it might not necessarily be something that would be of major concern during the season.

Because it is Williams’ second season in the system, it is more important for him to be healthy than to get practice reps in training camp. Plus, it will allow more reps for players like Dan Arnold, Darrell Daniels and Dylan Cantrell, who are either battling for a role or a spot on the roster.
