The Arizona Cardinals announced that tight end Darrell Daniels returned to the team, agreeing to a one-year contract. Daniels will get a league-minimum salary for a player with four years credited. He also has a good chunk of contract in guaranteed money. The Cardinals also get some cap relief.
According to Over the Cap, despite being only a one-year deal, his cap hit will be less than the value of his contract, based on a veteran exemption.
Daniels receives a signing bonus of $137,500 and will make $990,000 in salary. $425,000 of his salary is fully guaranteed, which more or less secures a spot on the roster this season.
The total value of his contract this year is just under $1.3 million. His contract will only count $987,500 against the cap, so the Cardinals will actually get $140,000 in cap relief on the deal.
It isn’t much, but little savings here and there will help them down the line this season.
